Hello,
My name is Tyler and just turned 18 years old in June. Thank you for checking out my story. I worked in landscaping in high school and saved for my 1st car and got a good deal buying my grandfather’s 2001 Ranger truck, but it was totaled in a hit and run after they ran a red light. I did get more than expected out of my truck and bought a used 2011 Chevrolet Equinox for $5000, well I guess I bought a lemon because it’s been in the shop more than I’ve driven it. I keep getting it fixed and can’t afford to keep repairing so I’m trying to sell it as is. The photo is only one repair receipt; I have about $3000 ($500 of which was replacing coil and spark plugs last month due to stability track light) in repairs and tires. I don’t recommend a Chevrolet Equinox as we didn’t do proper research before purchasing.
I’m in need of a vehicle but realized how over-priced vehicles are right now. I will only have the money from what I get from my vehicle and have zero luck selling it right now. I’m not picky, something to get me to point A to point B without sinking money into it. I’m a freshman in college, started this fall. I played baseball, but the doctors said my elbow is bone on bone (I had cancer when I was little and the chemo messed with my ligament growth, and had to quit playing baseball which crushed me. I feel bad and that it’s my fault that my parents had to file bankruptcy to pay all my medical bills for having leukemia, although they say that I’m living and in remission means more to them than money. They didn’t share the fact they had to file for bankruptcy; I listened in on one of their conversations and asked about it.
Three friends dragged me into golf as they played for years and my family couldn’t afford it. They let me play with their clubs and taught me everything. All got full-ride scholarships, one was a 5-time state champion and the other two got D1 scholarships. I am so grateful for my friends showing me life goes on, don’t give up, and keep pushing. I now love golf and made the high school team as a junior with no lessons, just went off what they taught me and broke 80 after 1 year of playing. I tried out for college and didn’t make it so I worked hard and tried another college and made the team, but no scholarship so having to pay for college. I work very hard and the team has practice, workouts, and meetings along with full-time classes and work, leaving me to juggle my time. They don’t have a golf course on campus so we have to drive to practice. I’m getting rides with teammates, but work requires driving to and from.
I’m trying to research motors issues, recalls and high mileage maintenance costs in order to not purchase another lemon, but not having much luck finding an affordable, dependable, low-cost vehicle. CVTs are failing at 100,000 miles. Some Kia models have a lawsuit on 2011-2019 vehicles due to motor failure and some catching fire. Seeing so many different issues, it’s difficult to find a good, long-lasting motor.
I’m wondering if anybody would be willing to donate money towards a vehicle or has a reliable one they could sell me at a reasonable price.
Thank you for your time and/or consideration.
