I never thought I would find a way to ask openly the public for help. My husband, a Desert Storm veteran, was let go of his job December 13, 2022, 12 days before Christmas. We’re thankful in that our daughter, who’s 11, doesn’t believe in Santa any longer and ironically received her Christmas present that Sunday before the 13th. It was a Tuesday when my husband received a call on his way to a job stating to turn around, park your truck, we’ll be there by 3 pm to pick up your truck, phone, and computer. Let’s just say he still to this day does not know why he was fired. He even filed a complaint with his company regarding the dismissal and all they said was they sided on his manager with whatever he said. The state we live in is an at-will state so there really doesn’t have to be an explanation.
He filed for unemployment all while we both put his resume on all different job websites. He had numerous interviews, whether they were in person, on the phone or zoom but then came the dreaded email with “we’re sorry to inform you” a few days after each interview. Unemployment took almost four months to pay out so we had to use up ALL our savings; IRAs, 401(k)s, credit cards and whatever was in the bank. Thankfully our mortgage company worked with us but there were always bills that needed to be paid, medication that he needed now that he no longer had his HSA account, as well as food needed to be put on the table.
He FINALLY started a job on 4/24/23 that works him six days a week until he is off of probation. He just recently got his insurance because I couldn’t get him on mine and with him being on his feet all this time when in the passed he has always worked four 10-hour shifts to give him three days off a week, he has developed bone spurs that need attention and will take him out of work for recovery.
I also work two jobs; one full time and one part time and those funds always ran out as quick as they came in. We now can’t get a loan because of our credit card balances being so high when we never thought we would lean on them so much. With that being said we’re asking for help to pay down our credit cards that total $8409.01. Anything would be a blessing and I pray one day we will be able to pay it forward.
Thank you for reading our story and God bless.
