My name is Lynette Berntsson. I am 58 years old and live with my partner Brian in a small village in Northern NSW Australia
February of last year, we were at the happiest point in our lives. We were planning to be married on the 5th May, 2017. The wedding invitations had gone out. The dress was made and the venue was all picked out. Brian and I have known each other since 2014. Music brought us together, Brian is a drummer and also a Barber. I, myself, am a singer but had not sung for a long time, until I met Brian. He brought the best out in me and the same for him. Life could not have been better.
On the morning of the 3rd of March, 2017, my darling, Brian had a stroke. It was a very severe one, affecting his speech and the right side of his Body. Fortunately, even though we live in the country, he was seen to in time. I thought with time he would regain most of his strength. Little did I know what I, and my darling, were in for.
After a few weeks, after the stroke, Brian needed another operation. The hospital asked for a Power of Attorney, because we were not married yet. I asked his half-brother, who is a lawyer, for help. My only thought was for Brian. To help him have his operation. I did not know what was going to happen next.
His half-Brother, the lawyer, filed to be his guardian. He wanted to sell his house, his car and all other assets and put Brian in a nursing home. I was to be expelled like some kind of pest, with an order against me not to see Brian again. My immediate reaction, was to fight for Brian’s rights and mine too.
It cost me everything I had saved, to fight his half-brother in a court case, to get Brian home.
We had to face a tribunal, where it was decided, that Brian was his own guardian but the NSW trustee would handle his finances.
Since June, last year, we have been struggling. We are both pensioners. The Trustee would take Brian’s pension and allocate funds for bills. For three months, they never paid a bill. I was left to pay everything out of my pension with the exception of a $100 dollars a week which the trustee gave me. I have won small steps with them. Now, they are paying some of the bills but it is still very hard.
I am asking for a helping hand. To help with our finances, to pay for any rehabilitation that Brian might need in the future. The NSW trustee, only will pay so much and the rest of the bill is with me. I have borrowed from friends to get us through and I am still paying the solicitors bill. I am behind with my own loan and am trying to catch up.
I know there is a light at the end of the tunnel for us both. I am so proud of Brian. The way he tries to get better. His speech is improving. We practice words everyday, as part of his rehabilitation. We go for little walks, with our dog, Pepper, who guards Brian all the time. Lately, Brian is trying to get back to playing his drums but finds it hard to hold the drumstick.
I ask if anyone can help, with a donation, in any way, it would be wonderful. To get us back on our feet and to help my darling with his battle to regain his strength and his pride. My paypal link is paypal.me/LynBerntsson
Thanking you with all my heart and a sincere thank you from Brian as well for your support.
All our best wishes for your kindness
