Dear Free Heart,
Two whole years since Hurricane IDA here in Louisiana. This is disappointing, I have homeowners insurance; yes I do. The adjusters came out and assessed my home for damages. I have a 4200 sq ft home. My roof was damaged, my windows, patio doors, wood flooring was damaged from leaking roof, ceiling inside all from the roof leakage. My insurance company paid me gave me $32,000 which is nearly not enough because you have to find a contractor to do the work and pay labor to them and the workers. So, I did get a lawyer, the lawyer sent out their adjusters to assess my home. The adjusters told me to go ahead and use the money for bills and whatever else we need it for, so we did, trusting that the outcome of suing my insurance would be successful. Come to find out the attorney scammed us and many others. So, the $32,000 was gone, paying bills, tuition for two grandkids that live with me, just ordinary living expenses.
Now, I have a blue tarp roof that’s starting to peel and blow everywhere, critters are inviting themselves in my home because of the rising wood flooring and rotten chalking around the patio doors and windows. I had to get another attorney to sue my insurance company but I am afraid that the attorney fees is going to eat us alive with nothing to work with. My husband and I are 64 and 65 years of age. We were seeking to retire but cannot because of the expense we cannot afford. Everything is so expensive and the salary we are bringing home from our jobs we will never get our home repaired the way we like. This is really stressful for my husband and I. It would delight my heart if I can get some assistance to help me and my husband to start repairs on my home.
P.S. I can present solid proof if necessary.
Thank you in advance
