My name is Sofia A., and well, life literally hit me unexpectedly.
My story: I was hit by a Drunk driver when I was heading back to my motel. I had this awesome birthday weekend planned. Which included my two best friends, enjoying the beautiful scenery of road trip up PCH, all the way to San Luis Obispo. On the second day there, we were heading back early since we were tired of all the walking. Me, being a responsible person, told my friends I planned to drink. So we will get food before the motel, since I am not planning to drive after I drink. We ended up missing our exit, and we got rerouted. We were going up this mountain, barely going 15 mph, since the road were extremely narrow and windy. The guy appeared on our lane coming down the corner side of the mountain. I couldn’t avoid him without going over the cliff.
Scared and alone in the hospital, I waited for news about my friends condition. We then had to wait another 3 hours, for my friend’s family to pick us up.
We were all lucky that our injuries weren’t worst, but all this happened in February. My arms and hands took most of the damage. To the point that I could not carry a cup without dropping it. I applied for disability, so that my job could pay a % of it, however, I did this since Feb. 15 of this year. Its March 20th. I’m finally able to go to work this week, but I am only able to work about 15 hours or so. Since, my hands get tired, even typing now, I have to take breaks. What would have taken me 10 mins to write this, is now taking about 45 mins.
The reason I am also here, is even though I am working again. I burned through all my savings to pay for rent, utilities, student loans, etc. I just need enough to make it to the end of this month. Especially, since I used the rest of the money to service my car, as well as get a small bag of food for my dogs. So, if you made it this far and are willing to help. I really appreciate it. Once I get back on my feet, I will pay it forward.
