Thank you for taking the time to read this. Unfortunately, this is my last option and hope to start recovering financially. So here is my story:
I am an active duty combat veteran who is currently serving in the Reserves serving in my 15th year. I exhausted my GI Bill before I earned my degree. I paid the last 2 semester using credit cards along with putting expenses on them. I went to school full time and held a part time job working 24-30hrs/wk.
After graduation I was unable to find a job using my degree (BS Biology) so I started working a second job as a handyman for a friends company. I attended one more semester in order to complete pre-requisite classes for both physician assistant and nursing school. My ultimate goal is to apply for PA school this April and use nursing school as a fallback. The application process is expected to take right under a year.
After my graduation my savings were pretty much depleted from everyday expenses and my credit cards were steadily being used.
Unfortunately, I developed an impulse control problem and my spending got out of control. I had no real notion that I was spending so much. During this time I was also dating a girl who was taking advantage of my kindness. Essentially we were supposed the help her out so she could concentrate on school and then we would let me go to graduate school. This was not the case, and I was left holding the bag.
It has all now come to a head and I can no longer keep up with my payments. It was determined that the impulse control issue was due to my PTSD and I have sense been working with doctors at the VA to manage this issue. I also had to quite my second job. I no longer could handle the physicality of it due to shoulder and foot problems I received on active duty.
I have been actively applying to any job that is available on a night shift for a few months now, with no luck. I have been able to get a few more hours at my day job so I’m only available then.
I am in need of financial help, anything will help. I understand that realistically Bankruptcy is the only option at this point. However, bankruptcy will make it very difficult to go to graduate school. It will also affect me keeping my security clearance in the Reserves.
So, I’m hoping that this website will work for me. Once again I thank you for your time in reading my story. I hope that some of you can help.
