Hi, I have no idea if this will actually help me and my son or not but I am willing to try anything right now.
I am a 42 year old single mum to an amazing 11 year old boy. The last 18 months have been extremely difficult mentally and financially for one thing or another. Just as I thought things were starting to level and I managed to take care of Christmas, things took another turn in the wrong direction which has now left me in an extremely difficult financial position.
My car insurance was due for renewal on Friday the 17th December 2021, my car was parked on my drive on this day and at lunch time I went on line and insured my vehicle with a new company as the renewal quote I receive from my insurers was on the high side. I did leave it until the last minute to change insurers however I was still insured so no problems.
I found a better cover and a lower price so I insured my vehicle, paid the deposit and all was done! However on the 18th December 2021 I went to my local petrol station to fuel my vehicle and a police car followed me in. Whilst fuelling the vehicle the officer approached me, asked if I was xxxxxx which I replied ‘yes’ and he then advised me that car was uninsured.
I explained to the office that was not the case, he asked for proof which I provided but as it was not showing on the Motor Insurance Database it was deemed uninsured. There were 2 police offices and a trainee police officer present and although they were very nice my vehicle was impounded!! I went to my local police station that afternoon, took all my documents for them to advise me again it was not showing on the database. The gentleman on the front desk at the police station made a call and told me that this has happened before and I would need to wait for (im not sure who, I believe the insurance company) to call them back with verbal confirmation all was ok. The gent on reception chased again for me but to no avail so I had to leave and return home as my son was due to come home from his fathers.
When I left the police station I was advised to come back monday and hopefully the Motor Insurance Database should be updated.
When the vehicle was taken I asked the office at the time, who I could contact regarding this as A) i did not have the funds to pays for the release of the vehicle and B) the vehicle should not be taken in the first place as it is insured. The office said my insurance company.
I have spoke with my insurance who have been no help and stated that the vehicle is insured and it will show on the database and I just need to give it time. I have asked if they are going to pay for the cost of the vehicle to be released to which they have replied ‘No’, I have asked that if I was to pay for it (which I can’t) will they reimburse me to which they replied ‘You would need to raise a complaint and this will be looked into’.
I have attached evidence of my motor insurance policy, police document and the Insurance Database showing my vehicle still isnt insured (i’ve removed my personal details) to confirm all of the above is true and accurate.
I am desperate right now, its Christmas next week, the cost to release my vehicle is £150 plus an additional £20 per day for each day my vehicle is in the compound and I dont have any spare money to pay for the release of this when I can actually get it out, I’ve reached out to my employer for an advance on my wage and been turned down, my parents are elderly and dont have any savings and if i cant get this sorted I wont be able to see my parents at Christmas as my parents dont drive and this year my son will be with his father.
I need to raise a £190 to £210 which is the £150 fee plus the £20 per day fee for Sunday & Monday and potential Tuesday.
Thank you to those of you that have read the above and any help anyone anyone can give would be so so appreciated
I’ve attached the police document under the post image section as it is too big to attach as an image.
