Hello. I never thought I would be asking people for money like this, but I feel like I have no other choices. I am 41 years old and married. My husband and I both work full time jobs. I am a Licensed Practical Nurse and my husband works for a local printing company. Unfortunately, the pay in this area is not great and two incomes barely cover the bills. I also take care of my disabled mother. My mother was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler in Jun 1998. She was also a Licensed Practical Nurse. The accident ended her career. She was able to collect disability and live on her own for a time before she moved in with my grandmother. In 2013, my grandmother and mother both moved in with me as neither were able to continue to afford to live on their own. I worked three nursing jobs to make ends meet. I married my husband in February 2017, at that time working two full time jobs. In October 2018, my mother was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer and given roughly 3-8 months to live. Her disability had also been decreased and she was told she was not eligible for medicaid. Her tumor was between her heart and her sternum. The tumor was causing her sodium level to plummet. This caused a condition called Syndrome for Inefficient Anti-Diuretic Hormone. There is only one medication that treats this condition and it is the only condition that this particular medication treats – Demeclocycline. The prescription insurance my mother had with her Medicare did not cover this medication because she “fell in the donut hole”. This medication is $800/month. I paid for this medication for 3 months until I could finally get her insurance taken care of. It is now covered. However, that has taken quite a toll on the finances as I fell horribly behind in bills. My husband and I ended up taking out some pay-day type local loans that we are currently paying on every month. We are just constantly behind now in bills. My mother went through chemotherapy (the picture below was on her last day of chemotherapy) and radiation. She is now going through immunotherapy. I have to take off work to take her to all of her doctor appointments and her immunotherapy. Her disability does not last her the month and we pay for her co-payments, her medications, her food/drinks, basically anything she needs. I was raised that you take care of family, no matter what. We know that she has already exceeded her prognosis and her time here is short as she is starting to get steadily worse. I am constantly worried about paying the bills instead of spending the little time she has remaining with her.
So what is it that I need? I need to get these pay-day loans off of us. We need to make a few small repairs to our vehicles (tires, some engine repairs – radiator leak, oil leak). And my husband and I both need to see our doctors (he has rheumatoid arthritis and I have a rotator cuff tear that I need to have surgically repaired). Adding it all together, we really need approximately $11,200 to be able to pay off the loans, fix our vehicles to working order, and get the medical attention that we both need. Once these things are taken care of, we would be ok and be able to plan for the future. I absolutely hate having to ask for this kind of help, as I was raised you work for what you receive. However, we can’t continue going on like this. Any help at all would be appreciated.
