Hello,
I was told about this site from a friend. I’m actually a bit uncomfortable asking for money from complete strangers. But if there is someone really capable of helping me, I’d be forever grateful and I would help others here like myself, in the future.
It started back in 2018 when I was let go from my job just shy of 20 years. I was actually lucky enough to find a job from a former coworker turned CPA. I lost quite a bit per year but I was ok because it would give my husband and me enough to pay our bills. My husband was disability retired and only receiving social security.
But then, about 6 months later, my husband and I decided to go roller skating for some exercise. I had been a great skater since I was a child until I went around a curve and my wheel caught my other foot. I tripped up and fell and my inside ankle hit the floor and basically exploded. I had what they called a compound fracture with dislocation. Basically shattered. I had to have immediate surgery and was to put no weight on it for 6 months. I had plates and screws and 2 large bolts to hold it all together. Stitches on the inside and on the outside of my ankle. So there went my job, my life pretty much fell apart. My husband was my nurse, cook, physical therapist, etc. I was completely helpless. I did not have good insurance because the CPA firm was small and didn’t offer any. The hospital bill was over $45,000. The marketplace insurance that I had, only paid a small amount. I could not get a 2nd mortgage because I didn’t have a job, and I found out later that I didn’t have enough equity anyway in my home since I had only purchased it 6 years prior. There was no way for me to pay it all back and no way for me to pay all of my bills. As I lay on the couch trying to figure out some way that we could survive, By the way, my husband scrapped everything he could find, to make some money for us. I was lucky enough to find a very part-time online customer service manager job (10-15 hours a week) that I could work right from my couch. It was far from what I was making but I was again grateful to have anything since, at this point, I was now disabled.
I looked into everything and found that I’d lose my home if I claimed bankruptcy. I had always worked and was able to pay my bills on time. I had over an 800 credit score when I bought my house. My mortgage guy said that was unheard of. Ok, but it didn’t help me now. Plus that’s over since everything that was to be paid was put on our credit cards making my score very low. But I say it only to show what type of person I strive to be. We have scraped bottom for the past 5 years and everything is so difficult. My ankle will never be the same and I hurt all the time. Now food prices have doubled. I feel like I’m sinking again. I still have $25,000 to pay off but it’s on time payments now. Working toward the end someday. I still work part-time for the online company, and I’ve looked for ways to make an honest buck. I’ve handmade jewelry and sold it. You get creative when you have to.
I feel I’m finally ready to get back to the real living (if that makes sense).
I want to make my own money and not have to worry about being fired. I want to make my own future. My husband is a wee bit older than I am (18 years) so I need to be prepared for anything. If I have my own business, I will be able to make the needed money to get the bill finally paid off and not have to worry about where we’ll get the money this month to pay the regular bills.
I wish to start publishing my own books. I’m honestly not even sure how much I even really need. I’m told I need about $10,000-$15,000 to do a start-up of any kind, so I’m asking for that.
I figure if I can start making money again, I’ll be able to pay the remainder of the bills that are still hanging out there.
If I ask for the $20,000 to be free of that bill, I still can not start and maintain a business.
So I figure…
Give a man a fish he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.
Again, I appreciate anything anyone is gracious enough to give me.
Thank you,
Diane
