Reality Check……
My name is Sidney Mccollough. I live at 610 Broadway St. Whitesboro, Texas. 76273 . I’m 65 and had a stroke August 29 th, 2013. I was also diagnosed with a chronic pain condition, RSDS. I spent 18 months at the Whitesboro Nursing Facility, before I was finally able to walk out of that place, with the help of a cane. In that time, I saw dozens of people show up, become somewhat familiar-and then, suddenly expire. That gave me motivation, as if I needed it, to leave under my own power…
In retrospect, that experience was easier than it has been to avoid a return to such an awful place. I have conducted my own physical therapy and rehabilitation protocols for nearly 8 years now. I was in the gym, Nautilus in Whitesboro, until October, 2018. I broke the fibula in my left leg, the small leg bone. That set my progress back 6 months, and I have not been able to return to the gym to date. I’m only now able to get my handicapped Drivers License. The vehicle must be 2005 or newer. The two assistive devices the state requires are a left foot accelerator, and an adaptive steering knob. I could get both devices at Amazon for less than $ 300. The state licensed vendor, Mobility Works in Mesquite, Texas quoted $ 2700 to install left foot accelerator, which must be connected to computer of 2005 or newer model vehicle. That price includes a $ 300 adaptive steering device. I’m including these facts, but this is not the main issue or reason for this request at all.
I’ve lived at this address since January, 2017. I was deeded this property in September 2018, by my PCP, John Galewaler D.O. after assisting him in selling property he owned in Whitesboro. I was able to help because I’m familiar with that process. You can type in this address on any browser, and it will give you facts about this large housetrailer. It will also tell you I’m the owner, some things listed aren’t factual. I’ve never lived in Livingston, Texas and don’t know any of those people listed as possible relatives. Another thing that it cannot tell you-is the poor condition this place has fallen into.
I am going to site a laundry list of repairs and estimates of costs, based on estimates of contractors, and based on my own experience as an expert carpenter from commercial and residential framing-to turnkey finishing and make-ready for showing properties. If I were someone ready to invest funds to upgrade any property, I would have to ask…Is it [ the property ] basically structurally sound enough to warrant a significant investment to upgrade ? In this case, yes the frame and base structure are intact.
I have to say that my focus on my own physical issues have caused me to lose sight of the condition of the only asset and home I have. It has reached a point of becoming dangerous for me-and very nearly liable to even become condemned by the city…My mobility has slightly declined due to a back injury. I used to think that those who said they had a bad back-were likely faking it. I can say with my own experience, it’s anything but a way out of work.
So, I need
- a wheelchair ramp: $ 600
- Structure leveled $ 1600
- Roof repaired $ 1500
- 2 coats paint $ 600
- replace toilets $600
- replace ext. doors $ 500
- replace garage door $ 900
- interior insulating wall treatment $1500
- Easy access shower $2200
- assistive devices $2700
- 2005 vehicle $ 3000
Those figures represent an out of reach fortune to me. Anyone viewing this request will recognize it as a rescue more than anything else.. After nearly 8 years of being wherever I was transported, driving anywhere would be like a dream realized. I can only say I know there are many worse off than myself.. My heart goes out to those people. I can only ask for myself at this time. I will make it my goal when I’m able to travel, to give back in some way…
Sincerely,
