It’s been a hard slog due to me being out of work and a single parent. My request is based on the fact that I would love to be able to take my boys, Ben and Charlie, on a short break during the school summer holiday for a week or two. Nothing too expensive but a summer holiday would reinforce my love and appreciation for them and I know they would be over the moon for such a surprise holiday this year. They are very close and never cause any problems at home or at school so would be nice to be able to give them something back for a change which I just cannot afford at the moment. This would also give us all the chance to get away and regroup for a short while and forget about the daily grind.
I know the boys would love to go to a Butlin’s or Haven site near the coast as they enjoy the sea, the swimming pool, basketball, football and any activities involving other kids, which might also enable them to make new friends. It would just be great to see them let their hair down after these last difficult few years. I might even let my hair down for a short time if this comes to fruition.
Ben and Charlie’s mother left us three years ago for another man which was totally out of the blue and has obviously caused considerable distress to us all whatever the rights and wrongs of the split between us. There has also been no financial input from their mother in all that time. She has also moved abroad with her new man to the USA. The kids have also had little contact with their mother since then other than the occasional email which just exacerbates the problem if I’m honest. So we are just getting on with our lives on a day to day basis.
I have estimated the cost of a one week holiday at a UK holiday camp destination during the school summer holidays to be in the region of GBP 900 and GBP 1500 for two weeks including travel expenses and a little spending money, though I can just about afford two hundred pounds of spending money to bolster the funds.
Here we are just surviving for another day and unfortunately requesting the kindness of strangers to help provide the boys with a holiday that they won’t forget.
Kind regards, Ben and Charlie’s dad
