My dog COCO has had an eye infection since October 2022 after being attacked by rats. My family was renting a home for 2 years. The owner repeatedly told us that we can stay there for as long as we needed. This was perfect for my family. My grandfather and grandmother are now 92 years old and cannot keep moving from place to place. The landlord bought several other properties while we stayed in their rental. Before my lease was up the landlord told me that they had to sell the house so that they could move to Las Vegas and purchase a million dollar home. This was at a time the house doubled in equity. They told us they needed to have us move by September 2022, which was before out current lease ended. They said the house they were in now would fit our family and we can just move there. I was able to see the house one time because of the expedited time frame. When we went through the house one of the female landlord told me when rat poison fell out of a cabinet that they saw one little mouse and they went overboard with making sure the house was cleared. Before moving I told the landlord I could not pay to move and pay another deposit. Not only did the rent go up 600.00, but the same day we moved I got a invoice for another deposit and some other requests. I was supposed to get 5,500 if the landlord broke my lease and she acted like she did not know anything about it. Early October my dog Coco started having green stuff oozing from her eyes. We could not figure out what it was from so we asked the landlord if there was chemicals or something that would be causing the infection. The veterinarian put a cone around her neck gave her eye drops and antibiotics. He was also trying to figure out what could have caused her infection. When cleaning one day I noticed rat droppings in the couch cushions. We had two new couches that we realized had been infested with big rats. There were multiple places that had large amounts of rat droppings. We went back to the veterinary office and he shaved her hair and discovered multiple bites and skin infections. He had to sew her eyelids, due to the rats getting in her cone biting her. We actually made it worse for her because she could not protect her face. When we brought groceries home they got so bold coming and taking bites of the bread and other groceries. We had to put all our food in locking plastic containers. One morning my grandparents had breakfast and by the time we went to clean the table off there was rat poop on the table during day light hours. There were roaches that started coming out as well and ran accross my bed one night. I was staying up at night so that my 5yr old was not bothered by the pests in the house. When I would talk to the landlord about everything going on in the house she would say they don’t cover pest control. I had an exterminator come asses the house. That company told me the house had been infested for years and there were several types of rats living there. We moved in September from a house that was clean and free from pests and the by October we infested the house and they would not pay for it. At one point she said the neighbor told her we keep the garage and doors open all the time. That was a bold face lie. The first of November after I paid the rent we had to move to a hotel. The whole month of November we had to stay in a hotel. It was my mother, grandparents, son, daughter, and myself. Ever since October my Coco has been in a cone because her eyes and skin won’t heal. The landlord took advantage of us and used us to be responsible for a house they could not live in for more than a few months. We left 90% of our belongings at that rental home. I need a lawyer to file a lawsuit against the landlord, and I cannot pay for all the medications Coco still needs.
