My name is Brian, and I work in the tech industry. I’ve basically been employed for the same company for more than fifteen years. Unfortunately, while I do have a steady job, my family’s finances have been going downhill for quite some time.
Due to a combination of a not-so-strong economy, increases at work that fell short of meeting the rate of inflation, family health issues, and some admittedly poor life choices, we have been enduring stressful revolving debt.
Between large student loan payments, the catastrophic failure of my car resulting in the need to get another so that I could commute to work, and family health issues, money became stretched tight. In an attempt to help alleviate our financial burden, we turned to short-term loans, thinking that we would be able to catch up sooner rather than later. Unfortunately, this proved not to be the case, and the amount of short- and medium-term loans we had increased. And as those numbers increased, so did the amounts for the payments and interest rates as my credit score took hit after hit.
I have been trying to fight our way out of this mess, but am not making much headway. My wife’s health issues prevent her from holding a steady job outside the home, and as I work full-time, she is also the caregiver for our special-needs daughter. With my commute to work, I am away from home for 11+ hours a day, making it difficult even to find a second, part-time job. I spend sleepless nights every payday, worrying about whether or not we will be able to cover rent, and gas, and food, and utilities, while still making the loan payments.
I thought long and hard about even posting here, but as each attempt to climb out of this hole met with failure, I became more disillusioned.
What we would ask is some assistance in getting things back on an even keel. My student loan debt is not something I would ask for others to pay, nor is my car payment, but if we could just get some help getting out from under the short-term loan fiasco I believe we could start setting everything right.
Ideally, we would be looking for help with $10,000 worth of debt to help us get back to normalcy. Any help is appreciated. We just want to get back to a place where we can sleep without wondering if the next week is the week we lose utilities or get evicted. Thank you for any and all assistance.
