My Name is Mi
I’m a teen living with a family of 4; my mom, my dad, and my brother. We had been homeless for almost 2 years hotel hopping, couch surfing, staying in garages, cars, etc. We always made light of it and joked about how we looked like hippie hoarders driving about in our car with stuff touching the roof (we did). My mom kept a job throughout this time and didn’t miss a single day of work, no matter what she went. My dad is an “alien” as they say…he doesn’t have papers but has always figured out a way to support us. At times he’d work and wouldn’t receive his pay. What could he do? Call the police or call the people who once sent him away from us, same difference.
Now:
In August of 2022 we were able to move to a house owned by my dad’s new boss, Thank God we don’t have to move around all the time. This house was previously abandoned, in the middle of nowhere and covered in graffiti; so we painted it and called it home. We don’t have the needs to fix the things that need fixing so we’ve put up with it, I didn’t know platforms like this existed otherwise I would’ve asked for help sooner, way sooner.
To Fix:
The house is infested with rats, flies, gnats, spiders, and lizards. The rats ate all the seedlings I planted (those bastards). There are holes on the walls and ceilings that we stuffed with cloths and tape for now. Some lights don’t work, we don’t have a table or couches and our washer and dryer don’t work so we go to the laundry mat once a week. The bathroom and my mom’s room have mold on the walls and ceiling, sometimes you can smell it when taking a shower. My dad scrubs it with bleach whenever it starts to form but it grows back fast. The roof leaks when it rains, two of the windows in the living room have no glass, it’s just, well a hole in the wall so we put boards and plastic to cover it. The pipes here are not the best, often the water turns off or gets clogged. Last winter we didn’t have water for a month and had to take showers in a pot with water we boiled. I’m asking for help to fix these things, and surprise my mom with a nicer looking home, I’d also like help with getting a laptop the one I currently use belongs to my school – I’m graduating soon and will have to give it back so I won’t have one.
