My name is Joe and for the last 15 years I have run Homeschool Arts and Rep based on my creative THEATRE class. I tried to make it work but it always ended up never earning enough to cover costs. I kept the program going as the kids who started around 8 years old were being homeschooled through high school.
Besides offering all kinds of theatre programs, from improv to Shakespeare and swordplay, we did free poetry classes, spanish classes, and other kinds of educational/artistic modules for the students of the program. It was and still is a comprehensive arts based learning experience! our kids are getting a program that schools don’t even provide.
I can no longer keep the program going alone, as costs continue to rise. Our two programs in PA and NJ face larger rents for our performance spaces in this upcoming year. We rehearse at churches, who don’t require large fees form us, but we can’t get around the performance space fees and the fact we need to replace our swords (each year we feature a stage swordplay show) and replenish our costume and props.
We need 7200.00 to make the 2019/20 season happen. Between the two locations we will work with about 30-50 kids. I have used my own money to keep this going through the years because I care about young people getting the kind of education through the arts that we provide-between the modern and classical work, it connects to several other subjects that kids are studying (history, as one example). I also keep it going because of the commitment the kids show in class-they have made every performance so special!
