My name is Sean. Where do I begin? This is new to me and I’ve never done anything like this before but I’m in need of any help. My situation started over a year ago that I started to accrue credit card debt. I carried no debt and just had to pay for rent and a car payment a year ago with other minor payments. My life was going really well, no debt, a girlfriend, no family issues. I didn’t foresee what would occur in the future. I work on an ambulance and get paid very little as it’s a private ambulance company and that’s the way it’s been structured for years, I don’t get state benefits either since it’s a private company. Work has always been a stressor in life, but I enjoy it very much as I get to help others in their time of need. There are really bad days of course but you manage through knowing you can do some good. It really is satisfying when you can make someone feel better and know you made a difference. My job is really important to me and I’m fortunate to say I’m still employed even with the virus around. Due to the low paying status of my job I’ve been really contemplating on another career but find it difficult to look with the weight of this debt on me. I will say I’ve been making payments to the credit card debt but have been unable to really lower them down as I can just do the minimum for the most part.
Now to the debt, about a year ago as I said above, I had no debt. My girlfriend lost her job due to the business closing down and it took her about a month to find another job so I supported her with what I could do and I started racking up some debt but was manageable, it’s the interest on the cards that are the killer. I then started to have some car troubles that were not covered under warranty, so I charged on my card with that. About a month after the car troubles my mom and stepdad began to fight a lot, so much so that they ended up getting a divorce and my mom was left alone with a mortgage she couldn’t afford. My mom is on disability due to cancer and she makes only about $700/month from government help. So I decided to move out of my apartment and move back in with my mom so I could help her afford her house. I had to endure a financial penalty for breaking my lease agreement, as well as now paying for a mortgage on my mom’s house as well as some smaller bills since I’m now living there. No matter what, family comes first and after the abuse she endured in her first marriage to my real dad, I wasn’t going to disappoint her. She has been an absolute mess but is surviving. As I’m a medical provider I need to keep up with certain medical standards and I needed to buy a new laptop as the one I had no longer worked so I put that on my best buy card.
From living on my own to now living with my mom again has been hard but is worth it. She is the most caring person I know. I’ve struggled during this time but have maintained the minimum payment at least. My mom has had a few surgeries in the meantime, some smaller ones for cancer removal and a rotator cuff surgery. Her medical bills always stack up but luckily the hospitals can be pretty understanding and lower her payments by a lot. I’ve picked up overtime when possible and I’ve still struggled to pay off debt still. The house needed some much needed repairs as the boiler we had has been in the house for longer than she has lived there, so I paid for the boiler and installation. The roof shingles also needed to be replaced on the house, but I knew how to install those, so it just cost me money to buy them per square foot which isn’t cheap either. The labor alone took me 2 days to install but it saved me some money.
Right before the virus hit, a death had occurred in the family, my uncle who we were pretty close too. He died of lung cancer and at least he is no longer suffering, so there is one positive out of it. I took on some of the financial burden of funeral services, cremation, etc. Other family members at least helped with this situation. Then came the virus that caused many layoffs, financial burdens, etc. I can’t deny that the virus has hit others more than myself. Due to the nature of my job, I wasn’t let go as towns need ambulance coverage and hospitals need ambulances to transport people. The hospitals did slow down on transports to other hospitals due to the virus which caused some of our ambulances to be shut down for a few months. Some of my coworkers were furloughed as our company wasn’t making much money and were actually taking a loss in revenue as was everyone else. With trucks being shut down that meant no overtime was available for me to work. A lot of people that have been furloughed have gone on unemployment and have gotten an extra $600 dollars to what they would earn on unemployment. So, my coworkers that were furloughed were now making more than I was while I was working. I’m not against them making money as I know it’s been a hard time for everyone, it’s just they were making more, and I was unable to earn anymore.
The virus caused my girlfriend and her mom to be furloughed and they didn’t receive any help until over a month after they applied. Obviously bills still needed to be paid so I helped out some more with what I could as well as paying my own. I know I’ve been fortunate to keep my job the entire time, so I’ve helped out people that matter most to me when they have been in a bad place. Everything kind of passed by so fast that now I’m in all this debt and I don’t really know what to do, so that’s why I’m here. I’ve tried to get a loan to have one payment that will be easier on interest too and I keep getting denied as I have too much credit with not enough income generated. I even recently tried my luck gambling which was stupid on my behalf because I knew I shouldn’t have done it and now that little amount of money is gone. I honestly never thought that I would be in this situation. I’m pleading for help right now, any help is greatly appreciated and will not go unnoticed. I have below all the expenses that went towards the credit debt as well as screenshot of my credit card debt. I am truly thankful for anyone who decides to donate whatever amount that may be and thankful for hearing me out. Thank you for reading my story and possibly donating to me. I am looking for any amount to pay off my debt, wether its the full amount or small amounts from different individuals. Seriously, any amount is greatly appreciated.
