Hi my name is Dave and I am 35 years old and have 3 children. I am on this website today because I don’t know where else to turn. I have worked in full service restaurants my entire working life and have never been to college or trade school. The restaurant I was at furloughed me when the pandemic started only to close their doors permanently a week later. I was able to find another restaurant job very quickly but that lasted 2 weeks before they shut their doors. I decided to move my family to Georgia where I had a relative I could rely on for help with my children. Once in Georgia I tried to apply for unemployment with no luck. It was a hard realization for me that everything I was going through and everything I was putting my kids through was my own fault. I never thought about it before but I literally don’t have any skill set to go out and earn a decent living in another field. After hearing my kids cry over our situation for the last time I decided to take up carpentry because my late grandfather was a carpenter. I didn’t realize how little I knew about carpentry until I got hired and fired all in the same day because I had no knowledge or skills in the field. I finally found a wood shop that allows me to work a few days a week cleaning up but it doesn’t pay anything close to a liveable wage. For anyone reading my message I am looking for help to enroll in some classes and also so I can get my own tools and practice and make more money. My end goal is to eventually have my own small business and finally be able to breath. Anything will help, I appreciate everyone’s time listening to my story.
