Thank you for taking the time to read my request! My name is Derek and I am in need of financial assistance. I lost my job back in April of this year and took a withdrawal of my retirement from my previous employer of 3 years. This money has lasted me until now as unfortunately my bills continue. My bills include $3274/month for my wife’s mortgage and our children’s child support – my wife and I have been separated since July 2018. I also have a $400/month auto payment for my wife’s car as she needs it for her job and for our children. I live with my adult son and I pay $700/month rent and approximately $500/month for food for the 3 of us in the trailer we rent. I also owe the IRS over $9000 ($10,162 when filed) from my 2020 tax returns and have a $300/month debit from my checking account for this. I have a $90/month bill from a storage company as most of my belongings are stored there as there is not enough room in the trailer/house we rent. I do not own a vehicle as the company I worked for had paid for a rental car and I my wife is starting paying for the auto insurance. I have been using my son’s car for food shopping.
I have worked for nearly 40 years as I joined the US Air Force in July 1980 at age 17 and retired in 2001 – I make less than $2000/month on my retirement pension and disability. I was lucky enough to see places that I would have never travelled to if I didn’t join the military. After I retired from the military I worked as a contractor in places such as Germany, Saudi Arabia, Korea, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and back here in the states. My career field in the USAF and as a contractor was in the maintenance of permanently installed fuel systems – cleaning fuel tanks, calibrating meters, taking care of fueling stations, etc. Now my age, 59 in September, and disabilities make doing this type of work impossible anymore. So getting another type of job will be very difficult for me as I also have anxiety of crowds and am not very comfortable to talking to people I don’t know well.
