We were a charity run organisation that provided preschool childcare.
In May 2022 our building suffered damage that was outside of ours and our landlord’s insurance. Our landlord was not willing to repair or replace the building, and so our lease was declared ‘frustrated’. We tried to find alternative premises, but nothing was affordable. We even tried a local media campaign, to no avail. There is an article about our closure in the local press.
Sadly we had to close with very little notice, making all of our staff redundant and leaving the committee with a significant amount of debt. In total we owe around £27,800 which includes a debt to the local authority and statutory redundancy to a member of staff.
We didn’t ask for this to happen, and there was nothing we could have done to prevent it. We are now seeking help with the debts, otherwise they will fall on to the committee members personally, leaving us open to being sued or having CCJ’s imposed upon us.
