Please read my story. It will take you a few minutes.
Last July, my sister and husband and child (10 months) had a serious car accident in Italy. My brother-in-law was killed and my sister was badly wounded and in a coma. My sister threw herself over her baby (my nephew) during the accident as a mama lion protecting her child. That is why my nephew survived and was unharmed.
My sister (she is Dutch) lived with her husband (he was Italian) and a child in London.
My sister and I are alone and have no parents anymore.
I had to stop working immediately to go to Italy for my sister and nephew.
The parents and sister of my brother-in-law (they are Italian) were of course there too.
Because I had to stay by my sister’s side and arrange everything, I was unable to take care of my nephew.
No problem, because my brother-in-law’s parents could do that for so long.
After 15 days my sister (still in a coma) was transported to London because of the insurance.
In the meantime, my brother-in-law’s parents and sister have filed a request for full custody. They were devastated by grief and did not want to give my nephew back to my sister, because they thought my sister would not survive. I could not have it but I went to fight for my nephew.
But my sister is very strong and came out of a coma after 7 weeks. Her body was completely broken and her head was very confused by the coma.
She was the first to ask about her child, but she did not remember his name. I told her that he was still in Italy and that he would be with her soon.
In the meantime I had to hire 2 lawyers (1 in Italy and 1 in London) to get my nephew back to his mother in London.
After 2 months I had to go to Italy for the trial myself. I lost it because didn’t have a good lawyer.
I had to hire a new, even more expensive lawyer.
In the meantime a friend of my sister was sitting with her at her bedside. Every day she asked about my nephew.
In the appeal I won and after, in total 4 months after the terrible accident, I was able to bring my nephew back to my sister. He was now 1 year old and had to cry a lot when he saw my sister. Because she wanted full custody of my nephew and did not want to give it back to my sister, my sister broke that contact. My nephew no longer has a father but also no grandparents anymore, his only connection with his father. This is horribly painful and sad.
This lawsuit cost me a total of 60,000 euros and I also just had to pay my bill and hotel in London.
After 6 months I managed to get my sister back to the Netherlands. She is rehabilitating and in the meantime I take care of my nephew and as a result I cannot work because of which I have almost no income. Step by step my sister is doing better and better, but she still has a long way to go.
Because of this terrible accident I lost my dear brother-in-law, I almost lost my sister and I got into big debts myself.
I am happy with every euro and I hope you can alleviate my financial pain. Thank you for reading.
