My name is Raven. My real name is Lissa but I have never really used that name unless it was for legal purposes.
My husband and I were living in an amazing house about 4 years ago. We were kicked out because the owner and her brother were arguing over a will and we had 7 days to get out. So we ended up living in a tent for about 7 months. The first snow collapsed that and we were forced to get a cheap camper to live in. Thankfully, my dad has a piece of land that we are able to live on. But the camper was 30 years old when we bought it.
So fast forward to 2 years ago. We don’t have real sewer so we use a portapotty here on the land and use well water to do everything else. Our hot water heater died and so we can no longer use dishes with out heating up water on the stove. To shower we use the hose outside in the summer and have a Y membership for the winter. There is mold since it is not entirely waterproof any longer. There are mice that we cannot seem to get rid of. The roof over the bed leaks no matter how much we have done to fix it. To top it all off, We have been paying for a storage facility for the rest of our stuff at 100$ a month.
So to make a long story short, I want out. My husband is stationed in Seattle with the US Navy. I can’t move there because I have a part time job in my field (still looking for a second job) and I have my support system here. Plus there is a 2 year waiting list for base housing.
We have been trying to get a loan for a house but we have student loan debt and we are rebuilding our credit.
It seems like we really can never catch a break.
So why are we not renting? Because rent is this area is 2 times more than a house payment. No really, we did the math. We have guaranteed housing money but because we cannot scrape together a down payment, no one wants to lend to us. YES, even with the VA loan.
We cannot figure out what we are missing or how to get past this bump when everyone around us is doing just fine. We don’t have rich family to help or really anyone but us. If you feel the need to help, please do.
