My name is Ali and I’m in my 4th semester (out of 5) of a nursing program to get my bachelors degree. I absolutely love the nursing field and know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is the place for me to be!
That being said, I’m 21 now, and have been self supporting since I was 17, meaning that I’ve used up what savings I did have paying for school up until this point in an effort to focus on school as much as possible. I do work as much as I can in a given week, but nursing school is a full time job in and of itself, so its hard to pay for my monthly expenses and tuition on that limited income. I also qualify for some federal student aid, however I’m still legally required to include my parents financial information even though they are unable to help me. Because of this, the amount I’m offered is typically only a couple grand in subsidized loans which only scratch the surface of my semester tuition/fees. I’ve also tried applying for private loans, but I would only qualify with a co-signer at every place I’ve applied, and I unfortunately don’t have anyone currently willing/able to do so for me.
My last semester starts on May 21st (I’m in a year round program), and my tuition for that semester is due partially on March 1st. Before clinical fees and whatnot, my total semester tuition is $11,200 ($700/credit, 16 credits), meaning I need to have $5,600 sent to my tuition office within the next month. (16 credits @ 700 each = 11,200, divided by 2 = 5,600). Once they have that down payment, I’m allowed to set up a payment plan for the second half, which I’ll be able to manage.
I attached a screenshot of the tuition breakdown, and I am only taking nursing specific classes this last semester as I’ve finished all my gen-ed courses already.
I’m rarely one to ask for help, as I am normally the one giving the help (hence nursing), but I’m so passionate about this field that I know its time I do ask for help.
Thank you so much!
