As a current sophomore in college my career goal is to continue my interest in sports that I’ve had since childhood. I played football for 7 years starting at age 11, and everything about it interests me. However the further into school I got, I realized the injuries players sustain in this sport, and many others, can be devastating, often life altering, and even deadly. As a graduate from College with my Bachelors in Healthcare Management, I intend to further my education by attending grad school to obtain my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. In this program I’ll gain knowledge into these injuries, the mechanics, how they’re sustained, and most of all how they can prevented as well. I want to fix the bodies of athletes that love the sport, so they can return quicker and stronger and know how to avoid further injuries.
Teaching kids, parents, coaches and school administrators that some of these injuries are preventable and provide them with tools and knowledge to impact lives. Knowledge is power on and off the field. As a student at I will use every minute of my time furthering my progress towards this dedicated goal through research and shadowing professionals. Set backs are not avoidable but are definitely manageable.
This school year I was diagnosed with OCD and moderate social anxiety, and I’m using this as a positive. My physician is helping me learn to cope, push forward and find ways alternative to medications to accomplish any goal in my future. My parents support me every day of my life and are solely responsible for my strength and attitude. I will continue to make them proud and I will succeed. This is a hurdle not a roadblock.
Middle class America doesn’t qualify for most of the grants and scholarships out there. My parents are told they “make too much money” while struggling to make ends meet for my sister and I. Health issues happen, family takes care of family, and finances are strained in life. The federal government doesn’t care. My parents are both employed and still married so we qualify for nothing. What merit scholarships I received, I earned with grades and scores by hard work. I’ve quickly realized debt in student loans adds up and my dreams of grad school start to dim. I would be greatly appreciative of any monetary donations that anyone may see fit. I can promise it won’t be wasted! Thank you in advance for any donation or even a quick prayer and good luck wish.
