I am a young girl but not like the others. I am a student like no other.
I am a young girl like no other because I succeeded in an inexplicable education from my poor mother, I am not saying that other girls are not educated but I just want to make it clear that I succeeded in education from a very important person in my life, my mother is not rich but she did her best for me not lack anything. She did her best so that I didn’t envy anyone, and she taught me how to live with what I have and never complain.
I haven’t heard my father’s voice in almost 15 years, and I have no idea where he is today. It makes it challenging for me because I was unable to spend time with my father when I needed him.
In essence, my mother is a woman who has been severely repressed because of her goals. When she was in Abidjan, she had to walk many kilometers to buy food for her kids, even though it was frequently difficult to find food. My mother and I made rice with water for us to eat. Studying was also complicated because we lived in a neighborhood where there are a lot of power cuts. I used the gas lamp to light me up when I was studying. While breathing the smell of the gas , it’s very toxic and very dangerous for human beings, but we were forgetting to deal with it. My mother braided hair to be able to pay for my studies in Côte d’Ivoire. In Abidjan,Ivory Coast grade school and high school are paid institutions. She suffered a lot to be able to pay for my studies, school uniforms, books and not forgetting my food. My mother eventually moved to the United States to work and send home money to my sister and I. We stayed in Abidjan with my aunt. Unfortunately, she was soon diagnosed with breast cancer, the doctors said she should go to France to have her surgery , however the money was not there to send her and she soon died. The death of my auntie affected me emotionally, she was like a mother to me. In her memory I always know where she is, she loves me and she protects me. My life was moved to the U.S.
Again “I am a student like no other,” it simply means that I am a student who has encountered several obstacles in my school career. In Ivory Coast school is not meant for all to achieve, only the strong move on, you have to study consistently all the time. When I came to the United States I started school straight away, in a language I did not speak. I spent my time crying and lamenting. I spoke French and lived through Google Translate
Courage kept me through death, moving to a new country. Not knowing the language, playing catch up, being a good student, getting good grades, don’t let my mother worry, because I will succeed.
I always told that “Kad tu peux le faire tu es quelqu’un de très courageuse, tu est forte mentalement donc tu peux le faire. Continue à travailler t’es effort payerons” (Kad you can do it, you are a very courageous person, you are mentally strong so you can do it. Keep working, your effort will pay off).
Engineering has always been a passion for me, although it is true that I have sometimes thought of pediatrics, but being a petroleum engineer remains a first choice. Four years in college will give me the education to combine Chemical engineering with another passion in nature to help the environment..
The first two years of my new life were good. I graduated high school in May 2023. When I was supposed to start my first semester of college, I got really sick and I missed the first month, and at that specific moment my mom got sick too and we found out that she has uterus Cancer. I was traumatized and scared because I didn’t want to lose my mom. I missed the whole first semester. But I’m going for the second semester, I had aid to help me pay for the second semester.
All this to say that courage and motivation must be our companions because without motivation we cannot be determined and without courage, we cannot achieve our goals. Courage and motivation are my best friends because if they weren’t there for me I think I was going to fall into a depression that could cost me my life.
The main cause of my personality is based on my family history and my community because none of my parents went to school so begin the first kid who going for four years of college with document is It’s a heavyweight on my back because my other brother and sister were struggling to complete their 4 years of college as they were undocumented so he was not qualified for scholarships. while I have papers to qualify for scholarships to go to university and get a graduate degree. One of the main barriers for my attending the university that I feel will support me is finances. As a first year general student finances have always been a concern. This scholarship will allow me to work at the petrol or gasoline center. I really need someone to finance my tuition fee for the year 2024-2025.
This money will help me reach a university that I have always wanted to reach to study engineering. At the University of Houston they have a reputation for supporting minorities in minority fields. As an African woman going into engineering I know this extra support will be crucial to my future. Reaching this university will allow me to have a higher education and help me contribute to my community by bringing my different ethical and cultural analysis that I have because I am a person with several different cultures.
Since I can remember, I have always had a passion for chemical engineering , and I am excited to become a chemical engineer. I want to leverage my knowledge and comprehension of chemistry to create beneficial products. I believe that by obtaining this degree, I will be able to influence how engineering and technology problems are approached and solved. I also have faith in my capacity to pick up new abilities fast and put them to good use. I come from a low-income family, so college is a bit of a struggle for me. My parents are not able to help me pay for college.
I was aware that I would require financial aid to attend college. I’ve known since I was young that I want to attend college. When I went there, I wasn’t precisely sure what I wanted to do, but I knew that college would enable me to do so. Since my parents couldn’t afford to send me, I was aware that I would require financial assistance .
