I am an international student living in the USA, studying to be a Montessori Teacher. I have worked with children for 8 years and want to progress my career. My program is a year-long and I have paid most of my tuition however I owe another $7800 to complete the course and I only have $2000 so I need another $5800. I have run into some financial problems since being here, I had to buy a car to commute to school as I knew I wouldn’t be able to afford housing near the college. I am living with a friend who is charging me cheap rent which helps but my commute is over an hour each day. The car market here is so expensive due to covid and the lack of inventory so I had to overpay for a very old car. Since then I have had nothing but problems with my car needing repairs and finally breaking down on the side of the road last week. These repairs have set me back financially.
My back-up plan for financing my studies was my credit card from my home country however since being here they have decreased my limit substantially and have left me with nothing. Both of my parents have passed away in the last 5 years from terminal illness and I have no one to turn to for help. I have always been independent and self-sufficient due to my parents ongoing illnesses from a young age but since I am an international student, I am not allowed to work while I am here or I risk deportation, so that isn’t an option for me either.
I have always worked hard to achieve my goals so this is not something I would do if I had another choice, I just hope that some kind-hearted people will give me the chance I need. I desperately want to finish my studies as I am passionate about working with children and want to make a difference in shaping the lives of the future. It would break my heart to have to go home without my certification after having spent over $25,000 of my own money to be here and giving endless hours of my time to the program. I feel like I have finally found a career that I am passionate about and is the perfect fit for me, I would appreciate the help so much in allowing me to follow it through until the end and succeed! Thank you so much for reading a small part of my story, I hope you will help me with my dream!
