Hello, my name is Lana and I am an international student in graduate school
in Loyola University Chicago and my major is sociology. When I have applied
and have been admitted to the program, I could afford paying my fees at
school, however when the financial crisis happened, I lost my job and
couldn’t find a decent replacement for it. Today I can hardly afford to
pay my rent and pay off my debt to the school at the same time with the
little income that I have right now. Unfortunately, as an international
student I am not eligible for any kind of financial aid at my school and I
am allowed to work only 20 hours a week. Furthermore, despite my fair credit
score, I cannot take a loan without an American co-signer, so my financial
capabilities are extremely limited.
I intended to graduate in May 2012, but right now I cannot register for the
last semester because I still owe 5,000$ to the school. It is difficult
times for me, and I struggle to lead a normal life right now, but I make
that sacrifice to get a good education and better future, because it is
extremely important to me. I am the only support for my parents who are
retired already and it is practically impossible for three people to live on
one average salary back home in Russia, that is why I made a choice to come
to the United States and get good education here. Despite all the
difficulties I keep high GPA and good prospects for the future, and I really
hope for a chance to finish my program and finally become a professional and
make something of myself.
If there is anyone out there who is willing to help me with donation, I will
greatly appreciate it. Any amount will help.
Thank you for reading this.
