I am single mom of one child and a teacher who currently earns about 1,161.58 USD per month. I am a trained Agriculturist. whose intention has always been to own and operate my commercial poultry farm. I also want to produce organic fertiliser and natural gas from chicken manure.
This is something I have been trying for so many years to do, from I was 28 years old and now I am 49. However, due to my many setbacks, especially being a single mom, being out of a job for several years and then having to do two major surgeries, I always find myself in serious financial problems.
My financial situation has caused me and my son, much embarrassment and very low standard of living. My son missed out on school many times. He never did grade two and only one term for grade three, as I could not afford to, so I home schooled him. We had to keep moving from one rent house to the next, with minimal furnishing.
At one point we only had one bed, which I gave to my son while I slept on a mat on the floor. My son objected to this, however, I insisted that I would be ok. Unfortunately, this was around the time I was approaching my second surgery. I was in great pain and laying on the floor made it worse.
I tried hiding my discomfort from my son, who was 14 but he could tell something was really wrong. One day I noticed he locked himself in his room. I could hear banging sounds coming from his room. When I asked, he insisted he was just working on a project.
Eventually when he opened the door, he brought the upper part of his mattress, with most of the inner padding, to my room and told me to sleep on it. He even shared some of the padding with his grandmother, who also slept on a mat on the floor. I realised my baby had cut his mattress in two to share with us. His hands, which he tried to hide, were bloody from being bruised by the springs of the mattress.
We survive from hand to mouth and from loan to loan. My son is now 18 years old and has done very well in his exams, earning 10 subjects. He is to attend Pre-University September 2023, where he will start his journey for engineering. He wants to be a Robotics Architectural Engineer and study in Japan in 2024.
My son is the main reason I now beg for help on this platform. I keep asking for help from people I know, especially family, and cannot get any help. I know his tuition will cost me a lot, especially to study in Japan. The application for the university needs to be submitted by October 2023. My salary will not allow me to acquire the tuition as I have three loans repaying.
It would break my heart to prevent him from pursuing his dream to study engineering abroad. I do not want to hold him back anymore as he is a brilliant young man. He needs an opportunity to go further.
I kindly ask of you for assistance for my son’s studies or assistance to raise funds to purchase my own farm. I would be most grateful for even a loan. If I get assistance to establish my farm, this definitely would be the platform I donate when my busines becomes a success.
