Financial Assistance

Hello everyone, my name is Christian and if you took time out to read this, then I appreciate that. I’m sure my story isn’t unique but I’m nearing the end of my resources so I figured this would be worth a shot. To start off, I had a child my sophomore year of college and I was 19 at the time with hardly any money or assets available to me. Although, with  help from friends and family, I was able to graduate with my bachelors in 2018 only to then not ever find a job in my field and then a year later, I found myself stuck with a new student loan bill and not a lot of money to pay everything. Luckily, I was able to get a job working as a maintenance person in an oil refinery and made decent money. At this point, I can sort of feel my life coming together. Fast forward to 2020, covid hits and all non essential personnel are told to stay home. Through unemployment, we manage to get by while waiting for the world to return to a sense of normalcy and later that year I would return to work near the end of the summer. In November of that year, a car accident left me with a torn labrum and I was now unable to work. I did have short term insurance and some savings so I was okay going through this period of not working but it definitely dwindled down the emergency fund i had and also led to more credit card spending. Following this, I was sold a dream by my uncle to go back to school to become a certified HVAC technician and that my school would be paid for and I would be taken care of in the meantime. This was not the case at all. From May of 2021 to May of this year, I was only able to work 20-30 hours a week because of school and almost forced to go into more debt to just stay afloat with bills and responsibilities I had.  This goes without mentioning that the company who brought me on ( Yes the one my uncle was involved with) began to tank and eventually I was left with owing these new student loans all to myself now. So just to recap, not only did I go through a year of not being able to work full time, I know would be responsible for even more student loans that I previously had been told would be taken care of. Luckily, I have started another job with a different company, same field of work. Unluckily, I know have about $30,000 in credit card debt. I’ve looked at consolidation, debt relief programs and bankruptcy before coming here. I’ve not come here to ask for all of my debts to be paid. I’ve never missed a payment on anything but with my house note, car note, insurance, and student loans I’m on the verge of finally cracking.
