Well, hi! This is awkward for me, asking for money. I’m trying to raise funds for two different reasons. I work full-time for the county I live in. I have to do something because I’m drowning while trying to keep up.
As many people know, working for the county doesn’t pay well. It’s better than a minimum wage job, but not nearly enough for someone like me to make it on their own. My son and I live with my father because I cannot afford a place of our own. Each time I think I’ve made a step forward, something comes up, and we go five steps back. I want to be the financially stable mother I know I can be.
1. My child’s “father” refuses to pay the child support he was ordered to pay. DHS has done absolutely nothing to help me. I’ve called them MANY times. I need a personal lawyer. Hiring a lawyer isn’t cheap. They all want a retainer of around $1,500-$3,000, depending on which lawyer you talk to. I also need a custody order established. The ‘father” has never met my son and doesn’t care to. I’m ok with that because the person I know him to be is a violent and combative one. I think it’s necessary to have a legal document stating I have full custody rights.
2. I need dental work. I’m embarrassed to admit that my teeth are in terrible shape. When I was 14 years old, I started going to an orthodontist. The doctor said my mouth was too small for all of my teeth. He said I needed braces, but before we could do that, I had to get this device implanted in the roof of my mouth to spread my jaw bone out wider. It was as painful as it sounds. The part of the device connected to my teeth left minor damage to the four teeth it was attached to. That damage later turned into cavities, infections, and root canals. It’s my fault it got that bad. I dealt with some mental issues in my late teens and early twenties. I didn’t care about my teeth because I didn’t care about myself. I didn’t take care of my teeth as I should have. The braces left small indents on my eye teeth that also turned into cavities. I want my smile back. The last dentist I spoke with gave me a full quote of over $3,000 to fix everything. I have dental insurance through my employer, but it isn’t great. They consider the work I need to be done as cosmetic dentistry. I have eight missing back teeth, making it difficult to chew.
