Hello, my name is Tieiesha and I’m a 31 year old, single mother of 2 beautiful daughters. We reside in Indianapolis, IN.
Back in 2010, I was diagnosed with epilepsy stemming from a tumor on the right side of my brain. Part of the tumor was removed during surgery just 2 weeks after giving birth to my youngest daughter. I was put on seizure medication for the rest of my life but back in 2006, I began to have partial seizures again. By May of 2018, my seizures aggressively progressed from partial seizures to full-blown, black-out episodes. After running numerous tests, my neurologists can’t seem to figure out why my seizures have returned nor why they’re more aggressive and more frequent then before.
I have several seizures on a weekly basis and sometimes multiple seizures per day which have caused me to miss days of work at a time. I’ve been blessed to keep my job of 4 years due to FMLA but the time I take off due to my neurological condition is unpaid.
I’ve always been able to work hard & maintain my household as well as take care of my daughters, but as of November 2018, things took a drastic downfall. My medical condition caused me to miss so many days of work on a weekly basis that I was barely making money to meet rent, pay the bare minimum on utility bills to prevent disconnection and to just make ends meet.
I was finally approved to receive government Snap assistance for the month of May which was a huge help with feeding my family after being denied several times. Before, I had to go to pantries and take my debit card into overdraft after every paycheck just to feed my family and to make ends meet. Up until now, I’ve been making it off of payday advances, personal loans and even a car title loan which is a viscous cycle because it keeps you in debt. I’ve attempted to take out more loans but since I already have out 3, I keep getting denied. I’ve applied for assistance through government agencies my neighborhood trustees offices, as well as local organizations & charities but they are so filled that the push back processing time to even get an interview to see if I’m eligible is too far out for my immediate needs. I even tried a GoFundMe but to no avail.
Right now I’m facing eviction if my rent plus late fee isn’t paid by May 23rd and my gas/water bill will be disconnected as of May 17th if I don’t at least pay the disconnect amount. If my car title loan payment is paid by the extension date of May 17th, I risk losing only source of transportation. My truck isn’t worth much & I can’t even afford to get critical repairs done to it but it’s all I have for my daughters and I.
My illness has really pushed me upon hard times & for the sake of daughters, I had to push my pride to the side and ask for assistance. I just don’t know what to do anymore but I’m humbled and blessed to even make it this far. I don’t mean to bother you and I’m sure you must receive hundreds of requests of people asking for money. To insure you that this isn’t a scheme or lies, if you are willing to help, I can send you any information, rental office letters or even utility bills. I’m not even asking for a cash handout, if you’d like to pay anything directly, I’m more than willing to provide with my information.
As a child raised in a single-parent household, it makes me appreciate life more & love my mother more than ever before because she was so strong to raise me all by herself. I know understand as I stand in her shoes. I’m even willing to work for it, it doesn’t have to be considered a “hand-out”. I’m just in desperate need and honestly, I don’t have any other options.
May you continue to be a blessing to others and may you continued to be blessed yourself ❤️
