I’ve been doing pretty good financially for the past few months. Everything has been paid on time and food is always on the table. Unfortunately, I fell slightly behind this month. Although I live check to check, I typically have the money I need to survive until the next check. But this month I’m behind by around $100 as a result of an unexpected family emergency over the Thanksgiving holiday week. I don’t have enough money to pay my rent which is due this week. I’m worried because I have 3 small children to care for and the last thing I want is for our rent to be late and I would like to avoid the $175 late fee which will put me in more of a bind. I don’t get paid until 12/15 and that’s a enough time for me to accrue a late fee which is added on the 5th day of the month. I have exhausted all of my attempts to get funding as the local charities and other resources I’ve tried are not able to help and friends and family don’t have enough money to lend me so that I can avoid the late fee. I know this sounds like the typical single mom pitch, but my story is truly genuine because I just learned that a site like this existed. In other words, I’ve never needed to ask for money from total strangers but I have exhausted all of my funds for the next two weeks. I’m a clinic assistant for an elementary school and I only get paid $20k a year. I love what I do but the job doesn’t provide much financial coverage, therefore I do the best that I can from check to check. When unexpected expenses arise, I’m often left in a pinch because my budget is tight enough as it is.
