Hello Everyone! My name is LaTonya and I have found myself in the unimaginable situation of being homeless. My son and I moved out of our one-bedroom apartment of 11 years in hopes of moving into a bigger apartment. I applied for an apartment and was approved but was told that the apartment would not be available for three weeks. I had worked it out with a government agency to pay all move in costs. When the availability date arrived, the date was pushed back another two weeks. During this time my son and I have been staying in several different hotels/motels to keep from going into a shelter. I have contacted several shelters in my county and the waitlist for a bed is 4 to 6 months out. I have spoken with several Government aides and been advised that because of my disability (Cerebral Palsy), a shelter/warming center would not be a good fit for me. My son has been able to stay with friends so he could finish school. But now that school has been out our housing options have diminished. The management company never submitted the necessary paperwork to receive payment for us to move in to the apartment I was approved for. So I have been looking for other options to keep me in the same school district since he only has one year left. The majority of the two bedroom apartments are over 1000 dollars a month and I only have one form of income which is Social Security disability and my income does not meet the income requirements of the apartment that we need. I have even been applying for one bedroom apartments again, but the lowest amount I can find is 950 a month or higher and because most properties require three times that amount, my monthly income does not meet the requirement. Because of my disability, I am on able to work in order to gain a second income. All the government agencies I’ve gone to have said they don’t have the resources to help me the way I need to be helped so now I am turning to the generosity of strangers to help me. My monthly storage cost is $200 a month and in order for me to have enough money available to apply for a decent apartment , I would need an extra $1000-$1500 a month in income to be approved. My desire is to attain enough money where I can open up a substantial savings account so that leasing agents can see that I do have extra money available to cover the rent every month.
anyone that can find it in their heart to help me would be greatly appreciated. Any amount would be an answer to prayer.
Thank you for your care and generosity in advance, and may God bless you all.
