Back-to-school shopping

Since everyone here has fallen on hard times, I’ll skip the sob story and cut to the chase. I’m a 38 year-old mother of 4, and I need help with back-to-school shopping for the kids.

I’ve hit up all of the local charity organizations that help with this stuff, but they’re all tapped out. I was able to come up with a couple packs of notebook paper and a few pencils, but that doesn’t cover all the necessary supplies. The children need new backpacks, clothes, and shoes as well. We aren’t a wasteful family, so if a backpack gets a hole in it, I patch it. If shoes start to fall apart, I break out the ShoeGoo and fix it. We’re just at the point now where the stuff we have is beyond repair and they’ve outgrown almost all of their clothes.

There is a thrift store nearby that sells clothes for a dollar each, and I plan to do the majority of the clothes shopping there. They have gently used shoes for $4 a pair. Anything I can’t find there I’ll get from Walmart, including underwear and socks. I can get school supplies from Dollar Tree and Walmart, too. I’m a bargain hunter, so I will make your donation stretch as far as possible, but within reason. I also hope to get things like toiletries (i.e. tampons, pads, shampoo, conditioner, and soap) for my older daughters.

I’m including pictures of the school supplies lists from the schools to show everything they need. School begins on the 12th, but I have until the following Monday to get everything. We should be alright until then. I waited until the literal eleventh hour to ask because this was a last resort. I don’t actually think anyone will choose my request, but it’s worth a shot.

My kids aren’t like most others who are lucky enough to have grandparents that spend money on them. They don’t get birthday cards in the mail, or Christmas packages. They’ve been through quite a bit in their short lives, but they’ve learned to appreciate everything they have. The younger two don’t fully understand why I can’t just go buy them the things they want, but they understand that I’m doing the best I can to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. They suggested we hold a yard sale to come up with the money for school supplies, and offered to sell their toys and even their toothbrushes. Their hearts are in the right place.

If anyone out there is willing to help, I’m asking for $200 to cover clothes, shoes, and necessary school supplies. My Paypal can be found at paypal.me/deevyl

Thank you for your time.
