Thank you for taking the time to read this post.
I’m a divorce 33 years old with 4 kids, hardworking. I recently moved from Florida to Indiana because of the difficulty of the high cost of living (rent). It has been a bumpy journey in life. One of the most difficult situations was being homeless. Eventually , I got a job while I was in Florida that was paying me $12 an hour and rented $1400. I have to take Uber to and from work, etc. My Ex wasn’t unable to provide assistance because he’s in Haiti, so it was only me.
In 2020, I meant someone, but because of how expensive Florida is, even with two incomes, it was still a problem. So, we decided to move Indianapolis in 2022. My fiancé moved first with the help of my cousin, who was already living in Indianapolis. Then I joined afterward with my kids, and I found a job. I eventually had to finance a car to make it less stressful on us to around from work. Although we only moved with just our clothes to Indiana, I felt a sense of relief.
Until I got pregnant with my fourth child. It wasn’t planned, but it happened. I started getting care very early, and from tests ran and examination ran during my pregnancy. One of the scariest results was having strange 3 cancerous cells in my cervix m. I had to now visit two different doctors during that period, and the frequency of doctors appointments was many, along with my kids’ doctors appointment, especially for my daughter, whose asthmatic. My job started to get effective cause most of my doctors appointments, they were during work hours. My supervisor was very understanding, but there were policies in which he couldn’t help much. When I had to go to my appointments I either had to come work late or leave work early, because I didn’t have enough sick time, vacation HR started to give me warning that I might be terminated due to me not having sick or vac time whenever I had an appointment If came in late or left early I got points. 6 points might termination I was already at 4. The reason I didn’t have time was how the company gave the time on base every 40 hours. I believe it was 3 or 4 hours of sick time.
As if things couldn’t get worse. The headaches and backpack were getting worse. My doctor requested me to be out for a week, and upon returning, HR gave me my final warning. I went to the office to request unpaid time 6 weeks before my due day but wasn’t able to get it. To make matters worse even if I pushed to work until my the require Maternity leave wasn’t going to be paid maternity leave due to company policy that requires me to have a year with the company in order to get paid maternity leave.
Things started to go downhill when I received a call from my 7 years old son teacher that he said he wanted to kill himself. My attention was needed, which led to me resigning instead of getting fired from my job. My fiancé had to take up a second job with Ups, which wasn’t helping much cause it was only 2 to 3 hours at times. My fiancé has been very supportive, but at the same time, he has a lot on his plate from his parents in Haiti along with his two sons he also has to provide for.
During my time out of work I’ve doing door dash, uber and all those other little side gig to keep up with some bills, but I could have only done so much being 35 weeks pregnant and barely able to move around. Then my fiancé grandma passed, and we had to help with the burial. Time passed. I went into labor and had to get an emergency C-section cause things weren’t going so well. It’s going to be two months now. I need to get a leep procedure done but am not able to cause the hospital is out of network of my insurance provider, I have to pay up front because its an outpatient surgery. So that’s on hold
I could go back to my old job but am unable to find a daycare with an opening space for a baby at the moment. I tried looking for an overnight shift but haven’t found any as yet. My uncle passed away a couple of weeks ago in Haiti, another unexpected expense on us.
Long story cut short with all of these has been happening rent is late, car payment is late, a personal loan I took late 4 months now and few medical bills that are passed due also. Am looking for any type of assistance I could find to get back on track, especially with rent. I don’t want my kids to go through being homeless again.
Your assistance will be gladly appreciated 👏
