I’m a single mom of two. I work a full-time job and two part-time jobs in order to provide for my children and myself. The last several months a series of unfortunate events have claimed all my savings and left me with debts and repairs I cannot pay for. I normally would not do something like this, but I’m out of options right now.
In February our refrigerator quit. I spent $300 and bought a used refrigerator, it had been “refurbished”. It worked fine for a few months, but the end of June it quit, the compressor, and the repair expense was far too much. I borrowed money to purchase a new fridge, complete with warranty ($2300). A purchase that I could not afford, but desperately needed.
May 6, my washing machine (that is 25 years old) broke. It didn’t just break, it broke and flooded my laundry room, family room and master bedroom and closet. The sensor that tells it when to quit filling stopped working and the water continued to fill and then overflow continuously until I discovered what was happening and turned the water off. However, the flood damage was done. My homeowner’s insurance will cover the repairs, however, my deductible is $1700. I don’t have that. I am currently borrowing a washing machine from a friend that temporarily had one in storage, but I will need to purchase a new washing machine before the end of August when she will be moving and need hers back. Again, I do not have money for a new washing machine.
July 4 our AC quit working. We live in an area where it regularly gets over 100 during the summer. The repairs were made, but now I have an invoice I do not have money for, $250.
We live a modest lifestyle (25-year-old washing machine). Our basic needs are met and I had been able to save a small amount for emergencies. The inflation of groceries and gas left me no option, but to take from the savings each month and I used a good chunk to purchase the used refrigerator that broke after 5 months. I have sold everything that is of value, I didn’t have much, and I am in a $6000 hole that I need help with. I have worked incredibly hard the last 9 years, since my divorce, to rebuild my credit, raise my children, buy a house (cheaper than renting where we live) and build a simple, yet lovely life. I feel like I’m on the verge of losing everything I worked for due to circumstances beyond my control. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
