Hello! My name is Shayla, I am 27 years old and I need help urgently. I need $4,000 to pay off my rent debt. Last year my mom and I (and my cats) moved to a small town in the middle of nowhere. My mom wanted a change of pace, but I personally wasn’t planning on staying long, just a few months or so to help my mom out before moving to a bigger city for college. Unfortunately, because it’s such a small town I wasn’t able to get a job – the job I thought was in the bag for me fell through and there were no other businesses hiring. At the time we didn’t have a car, so we weren’t able to find work in other towns.
We were able to coast for a bit with our savings but they soon ran out. Thankfully we rented from a friend of my mom’s so he was very understanding when we weren’t able to pay the full rent every month. Unfortunately – and understandably – he can no longer rent to us since we owe him $4,000 in rent. He told my mom that if we can’t pay the $4,000 he’ll have to evict us. We both recently got jobs, but they don’t pay enough to pay the owed rent, next month’s rent, bills, plus the car payments.
I don’t know what we’re going to do if we end up evicted. I really don’t want to have to give up my cats, especially since all the nearby shelters are kill shelters and cats aren’t very popular around here. But I also can’t just keep them in the car, especially not when my mom and I are working. And one of my cats is pregnant!
If we can get rid of the owed rent we’ll definitely be able to stay and keep up with all the bills and things, it’s just the $4,000 that is holding us up. Once you fall behind, it’s hard to get ahead. We tried looking for loans with our banks and other online lenders, but unfortunately we don’t qualify for the amount we need, we’d have to take out multiple small-amount loans to add up to $4,000.
