Like many others, my life fell apart last year. Between COVID, losing my job, my mental health, and my physical health, my financial situation went on a downward spiral. I was living in Utah, and I had access to all the doctors I needed for my autoimmune diseases and epilepsy. I had access to amazing public transit and before COVID I had a job at a publisher. After things started falling apart, I was struggling to find a job. People were being laid off and the demand for remote jobs was higher than normal. I was willing to work in person even though I was high risk, but my body couldn’t handle the hours required of an essential worker. I reached out to the Church and they promised they would help me find a place to live, seeing as how my lease was coming to an end. While they didn’t help me search for a place as promised, they reassured me they would help pay for rent until I get back on my feet. Last minute, after I found a place, they insisted they had prayed about it and felt that dishing out even more money to send me to a less than safe environment where I would be isolated was what “God wanted”. I should’ve said no. I should’ve let myself be homeless for a few weeks until I could get a new job, which would have at least been doable. Out here in this middle of nowhere town, there’s nothing. I feel so stuck and hopeless. And not only did I “lose” my home and my support system and doctors, I lost my faith too. And I literally have no one to turn to. I have one friend who said he could help eventually, but I don’t know when that will be, and every day just keeps getting worse. I want, or rather need, to get back to where I was living. I applied to several jobs out there and already I have people interviewing me. I’ve no doubt I’ll be able to get back on track once I’m there, but the problem is now getting there. I have a friend who is more than willing to drive me, but I need gas money and first month’s rent & deposit. I’ve only had a few editing jobs come through online and I am trying so hard to “market” myself so I can get income. Any little bit helps.
