I am asking for $1600 for past due rent, electricity, and water.
I am a mother of 4. I have 3 girls (ages 7, 9, and 12), and 1 boy (age 6). Yes, I know, poor boy. We are currently in a house, thank god, after being homeless for 5 years. I worked very hard to get where I am right now. I took 2 jobs where I worked while they were in school and worked at night while they were asleep.
My children are currently at home doing virtual schooling, which is not as easy as you would think with 4 kids all in different grades. This means that I am down to 1 job at night. Which means that our funding is suffering. I have gotten help from churches, which is not much but it did help. I have gotten help from family, which was really not much help, mostly meals – although that did help a lot with my food budget. Don’t even get me started on our food situation. I just have one thing to say about that – thank goodness for pantries!
I am 2 months past due on my rent and they are no longer holding evictions. I am 3 months past due on my water. I am 2 months past due on my electricity. My phone has been off forever but I can deal without that. My internet is 1 month past due but we can deal without that as well.
What we cannot deal without is water, electricity, and our home. I refuse to go back to being homeless. I have nothing to pawn and nothing to sell. We have 1 tv that is so old that no one would buy it anyways. I am so glad that my kids love to read right now. I don’t know what I would do if they did not have books. We love libraries!!! I was so glad when ours opened back up.
So, here I am. I am asking for $1600. This will cover my past due rent, electricity, and water. The school is talking about opening up after the Christmas break, depending on the situation with the virus of course. So I am hoping to make it till then and be able to maintain.
I want to say thank you to whoever reads this and if you are looking for inspiration, just remember these: This too shall pass! The sun always rises, you just can’t always see it. Every cloud has a silver lining! When the garbage gets stinky, either take it out …..or move away from the dumpster. Always wrap diapers in bags before throwing away! Never eat where you sleep. When in doubt – shrug and smile. When you’re sad – shrug and smile. When you’re mad – shrug and smile. (My shoulders are very strong at this point!)
