Hi, my name is Joe and I’m desperately looking for some help with my rent. I’m a 58 year old male that has been on disability for 12 years due to psychiatric disorders PTSD, severe anxiety, and major depression. I’ve always been a self sufficient and proud person and it’s very difficult to ask for help. For the last several months I’ve also had some physical issues. My lab work showed that I am anemic and have a low red and white blood cell count. My doctor has done a number of other tests which still have not given us an answer as to why my lab tests are off. The next step will be for my doctor to refer me to a hematologist. I’m hoping to have some answers soon.
I have lived in this apartment for almost 10 years and have absolutely nowhere else to go. I have asked my property manager to draft a receipt of my rent owed. I’ve unfortunately fallen several months behind. I’ve been paying a few dollars here and there when I can. The owner of the apartment complex has told her that if I get any further behind they will likely have to ask me to move. I guess that’s a nice way of saying I’ll be evicted.
Because my mental health issues have become a lot worse over the last couple of years I’ve found that I’ve alienated myself from people and have very few friends left that I talk to. Most of my family has passed on. Both parents died of lung cancer and I lost my younger brother in a drowning accident. I find myself alone and afraid. There have been times when I though I’d be better off dead, but there is a part of me that wants to go on.
The other major challenge I have even when I start to feel better physically is that I’m only able to work part time due to my disability. I’m also only able to do certain jobs. This pandemic is going to make it even more challenging as the job market is certainly not what it used to be. I’m hoping that changes soon.
Again I hate to ask for help, but I’m in a very desperate situation. If you can help with any amount it will be appreciated more than you could ever know!
