Behind on rent, bills, car payment and have zero money for food due to husband losing his job unexpectantly 6 weeks ago. We never thought he would be let go from his job, he has been there for years. My income doesn’t even touch our expenses mostly because my wages are being garnished for past due taxes from 2009 when my return was not completed correctly and they just now hit me with the corrected return and outstanding amount owed for then a couple of years ago. They have been taking over $200 every week from my check for over two years now. Even though that debt has been paid in full, the IRS continues to garnish my wages and I can’t get the right person from there in touch with the right person from my HR department in another state to get this stopped. To date, they owe me back over $3000 and when I call to ask about receiving this overpayment back, I just get transferred back and forth between different departments of the IRS.
We have no-one to turn to for help. His mother is elderly and on a fixed income; SSI. My parents are deceased and I am an only child. Everyone we turn to to ask for help (charities, churches, etc. ) says we must have an eviction notice before they will even talk to us about helping. This is what we are trying to avoid! I do not want to get an eviction notice. We are behind one month in rent already ($1250) and August rent will be due soon ($1250). Our current landlord still has the electric in his name because we owed a past due bill to the electric company of around $500 and the they wont turn it on in our name until that is paid. We paid it, but they applied it to my husbands deceased aunts account because his name was on her account. We had her bill to sent to our house so we could remind her to pay her bills when she was alive and when she passed, his sister was suppose to pay her outstanding bills with money from her estate, but bought herself a house instead. (His truck was repossessed as well because it was in his aunts name and she didn’t pay that obligation either.) We owe the landlord over $900 in electric bills, so I’m sure he’s not too impressed that we are now behind on the rent. We’re trying not to make it difficult on him or put him in a bind either, but with no income, there isn’t much we can do. We currently share one vehicle which is now 3 months past due ($870) and they have threatened repossession as well.
We have an 11 year old son and are scared we will become homeless very soon unless we can get these past due amounts we owe paid. My husband has found a great job with an engineering company paying almost double what he was getting paid at his previous job, but that isn’t set to start for another 3 weeks. If anyone could send help to get us back current on our bills and to stay afloat until he starts generating pay from his new job we would be indebted to you forever. We are literally at the end of our last straw and I do not know where else to turn. I believe that people are generally good and willing to help if they can, so I am asking for someone to help us in this very dark time. I assure you once we get back on our feet, it will be payed forward.
