I am writing on here in the hope that somebody can help. I will try and explain our situation as clearly as I can.
I have several chronic illnesses that make my day very difficult and can only be managed by medication. I am in constant pain and also have a lot of anxiety. This year I was formally diagnosed with autism as well.
I go through frequent flare ups which make working very difficult and due to this I can only work part time as I am no longer able to sustain full time hours. For the past three months, however, I have been signed off work by the doctor and undergoing treatment at the hospital due to a long flare up and autistic burnout which can make life feel very challenging.
Because of the type of contract I have at work, I do not qualify for statutory sick pay and have now been informed that I will not be receiving anything further from them as I have been off for too long.
My wife is my carer and, as such, receives Carer’s Allowance whilst I get some help through Universal Credit (single claim at the moment as my wife does not qualify). Unfortunately, though, the money we have coming in is not enough to cover everything and the emergency buffer we had is all used up and we are almost at maximum overdraft on our accounts.
My wife has been looking for a part time job but between the time needed to look after me and the limited hours you can work or earn under Carer’s Allowance it has not been easy. We have cut back as far as we possibly can by not using the heating and electricity and spending the minimum amount on food shopping and only paying for essential bills but it is still not stretching enough and we have now fallen behind on rent which is the main thing we need help with.
We are very stuck and I honestly don’t know where to turn to at his point. Hopefully once my wife finds something we can get some more help but in the meantime things are extremely difficult. It is a constant worry and stress.
I would like to go back to work but I physically cannot at the moment. I know we are in the same boat as a lot of people and I am not sure if anyone will see my post but I am writing in the hope that someone may see and help.
I am not asking for a set amount, anything would be gratefully received to help get us back on our feet until I can return to work.
