Hi, my name is Mia, and I’m currently very worried I might be evicted from my apartment. I was in an abusive household until I was 19, and my alcoholic father kicked me out. I was able to find an apartment, but now I fear I may lose it. I have a job, but my hours have been cut to only 5 a week, and I make less than minimum wage in my state. I had another job as well, but was laid off. My rent was raised without warning, and now I have no money due to paying off my other bills. I’ve been doing my best to do odd jobs, but everyone I know is tight on money right now. I would ask family, but my mother has congestive heart failure and can’t currently work, and I don’t have any other family or friends willing or able to help. I currently need around 900$ just to stay afloat, or else I’ll have an evection on my record and have to go back to an extremely abusive house. I’m currently looking for another job, but I live in Phoenix AZ, where summer is the time when no one is hiring due to everyone leaving the state to be in cooler places. Summer here is also a time when electricity bills skyrocket, so that’s another rising expense as well. I already keep my apartment pretty warm to attempt to keep my bill as low as possible, but the rates go up all over the state so there’s only so much I can do. I also don’t have much to sell anymore, I even sold my car a couple of months ago to pay for rent and my other bills. I’ll still be doing as many odd jobs as I can, but really anything helps. And you wouldn’t be helping just me out, I also have two loving cats as well who don’t deserve to be bounced from place to place.
I’ve attempted to get government help through rent assistance programs, but I don’t qualify for a lot of them, and there aren’t many out there to begin with. I won’t stop trying, but I very highly doubt I’ll be able to get help that way, as there are limited spots and they fill up quickly and tend to go to people with children.
I really hate asking for help through the internet, but my options are getting more and more scarce by the minute. I have no credit, and in AZ evictions are a massive hit to your credit, and they stay on your record for 7 years, which will greatly reduce my chances of being able to find another permanent place to live anytime soon. I really need help getting back on my feet, and I’m confident that if I can get through this month August will be easier, as that’s when companies here tend to start hiring again. Please help me get back on my feet.
I appreciate anyone who took the time to read my story, and thank you so much.
