I am 41 yes old and have 2 daughters. I applied for the California renters Assistance program back in August. 2021. In October 2021 I was approved for the program and was granted $16k. I sent in all the necessary documents they requested. My landlord did not want to participate in it which at the time didn’t effect my approval per my case manager. In Nov. 2021 I hadn’t heard anything more about my case and so I called my case manager and after leaving numerous messages and emails (did that for 2 weeks) I find out he is no longer working with the program. So when I would finally get through to the main number after being on hold for hours and even waiting 3 days for call backs, I would be told the same thing each time and that was “Mrs. Young you are on the last step which is signing off on your case to disburse your funds which happens after this last step. Be happy you made it this far and we ask for your patience while we finish everything up”. So from Nov. to January that was the same thing I was told each time I would call for an update. Now here it is the beginning of Feb. and I call in and was told I would get an email or call back that day or the next. Not even 10 min later I get an email stating I do not qualify as I didn’t submit my documents. Now here I am completely lost, mad but scared and worried because the last 5 months I was told I was approved and all documents were submitted and accepted. When I would call they couldn’t give me any info as to why I was not approved but I had the chance to appeal. So the next day I did the steps for an appeal and 4 days later I received a letter that I lost my appeal. I read on a site called “Reddit” where other individuals post their experience with this program and a lot of them said to reach out to our local senate. So I talked to Diana Ramirez from Senator Glazer’s office and she told me to send her every piece of correspondence from me and from the program so she can look it over and reach out to them. So I did just that and waited a week before I called for an update and when I didn’t hear back I emailed her. She emailed me back the following day and said her hands are tied cause the denied my appeal and that is final discussion that can’t be overturned. I was is disbelief that was the only help I got from my senates office. She didn’t look into my case, she didn’t ask questions as to why I was approved for 5 months and was told they had accepted all my paperwork just to be told I got denied. This is not fair as I am about to be on the streets. My landlord thinks I was just blowing smoke up his *** to buy time so I can live there rent free. That is not the case at all. I have attached my approval and emails to Diana to show what was done to me was unfair and cruel.
Thank you for all asking your time to read my situation. Any amount will help me and my kids save our home or get into a new one. I am a full time student who lost their job suddenly after my boss, the CEO passed away and they closed the doors to the business.
I know we are all struggling in our own way especially after all that has happened to our world and I am praying for us all that we come out on top and make it stronger then what it was.
