Hello there. We are in need of any financial help anyone can offer. I don’t have anywhere or anyone else to turn to for help. So, I’d like to tell you a little about us.
My fiancé, our daughter, and I have lived in a 2-bedroom apt since our daughter was born about 6 yrs. ago. We live in a small town in Wisconsin near Madison which is where I currently work. We have had our fair share of struggles. When I was 4 months pregnant, I was wrongly terminated from my job. That same day my fiancé got laid off. He was able to start a temp job at a factory that started that same day. I fought and won my legal battle. I also managed to find an employer who hired me 6 months pregnant for a part time CNA job during the time I was pursuing my legal battle. The next few years things got better. I landed a great full-time job that I have been at 5 years now. My fiancé got a full-time job 3rd shift at a hotel so we could try to save money on daycare. He worked his way up to supervisor after about 2 years of working there. During this year as a supervisor he received tons of praise from his boss on the great job he was doing, was gifted dinner for the two of us at the steak house the hotel owns along with a congratulations card right before the year mark of being a supervisor. Things were really looking great. We were hoping the year mark would come with a raise and we’d finally be able to afford to set aside a little from each paycheck to buy a house. Unfortunately, right after he hit the year mark the owners decided they wanted to downsize staff and such. He was going to be demoted back to associate. Understandably upset he quit. Looking back, he realizes this move was a mistake, but what’s done it done, and we just keep moving forward.
He found a job as night audit, only to get laid off after the busy season. He worked his butt off at a foundry for a year and half. Damaged his hands but continued working through the pain. The area around here got flooded very bad! He got stranded for two days! After he and others were finally evacuated, he got very sick. I believe it was from being cold and wet for so long. He called into work because he was so sick. He told him what happened, and their only response was, “If you don’t come in, don’t come back”. He was unemployed and super depressed. He didn’t work for 4 months, but I was able to borrow money and keep things together. He got back on his feet and got a job as a front desk associate at a hotel closer to home. It was much smaller than his previous hotel jobs, and much less responsibility, but he was just happy to be back working with people. He was there for almost a year. He was loving it, had a good workflow going to get the thing done that was needed. He was back to assisting guests, he learned to clean the pool, and set up breakfast. We thought things were going well. His boss gave us a nice Christmas gift last year. He overheard that our daughter was sick and offered to let my fiancé off early so I wouldn’t be late to work because we overlapped schedules. Then out of the blue one morning at 3 am his boss came in and fired him. Would not give him a reason or tell him what he did wrong. He had never gotten any warnings or write ups. It was so out of the blue we were both shocked.
Since then my fiancé has been searching for a job, getting interviews, and rejection emails. He has been trying so hard and getting more depressed each day. Three weeks ago, I was finally able to convince him to get help. He has started a medication for depression, and meeting with a therapist regularly. He’s still trying to find a job, but nothing has panned out. No one has offered him a job yet and we are running out of time. It’s been 6 months of unemployment. This is the worst hardship we have been hit with. Normally he finds a job in a couple months and things are super tight, but I figure it out. This time I have no one and nowhere left to turn to for help. We have exhausted all local assistance we could find and qualify for. It’s tough for us to qualify for much though. Most of these programs go by the gross amount of my paycheck, which is usually just over the income limit, but I lose over half my paycheck to health insurance, dental insurance, and taxes. I am really starting to panic. The little bit of unemployment he gets runs out in two weeks, and he still has no job offers. He has interviews set up, he is still putting in applications, and even I am putting in applications to try to help him. I don’t know what else to do or where to turn.
I’d also like to note, because I’m sure people will wonder. I have tried to lower and get rid of any unneeded bills. I’ve looked around at other apartments to see if I could find anything cheaper in our area, but everything is more expensive than our current rent. I already carpool to work to save money, and we have been using our local food pantry. Also, I’d like to mention our daughter has grown up well, happy and healthy. She is the kindest, most friendly little ray of sunshine that anyone could ever ask for. She is in kindergarten this year and will be six in January. We are very thankful for our little sunshine and are just trying to do our best to provide for her.
So, with no other options I am here. Telling our story, praying, and hoping that someone out of the kindness of their heart can lend us a hand. Any assistance is greatly appreciated, and we will be forever grateful for it. Thank you in advance to anyone that can help us.
