I don’t know if this is the right thing to do but I’m at my wit’s end. To make a long story short: mid-last year my aunt was diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer and was told she had very little time left. She was a very strong woman and decided to undergo treatment despite her prognosis. And when that failed, she chose to have at-home hospice care. She had a very strained relationship with her children and I had always been more like a daughter to her than a niece. So, naturally, she asked me to assist her at home when she became too weak to do most things herself. She, of course, had nurses coming in around the clock but she had always been a reserved woman and didn’t like strangers in her home. I did what I could while working but soon her swollen feet didn’t let her walk around her own house unassisted. She still tried, for the sake of her own pride, with many scary falls. The nurses felt that it would ease her mind if someone she was close to helped her instead. Finally, after much consideration, I decided to quit my job and devote myself to her in her last moments. She has since passed away.
I had been unemployed for three months while caring for her. I’m twenty years old and living in a small apartment that charges $1,800 for rent. I have other bills to pay as well; my car, student debt, insurance etc. It’s easy to see how I ran through what little I had with a minimum wage job. Last month I finally caved and started taking from my savings.
I’ve paid off my other bills for this month and came up short for rent, which is due two weeks from now. The apartment manager has been understanding of my situation up to this point but can’t do much about late payments. I’m truly and deeply sorry for having to ask people for their hard earned money, but I’m running out of options and can’t afford another loan on top of the others I already owe. I’m not asking for large sums of money. Whether it be a dollar, a cent, five dollars; any help would be appreciated. I just need this month’s rent to be paid and when I start my new job next month, I’ll get back on my own feet.
Thank you for taking the time to read this today.
