Hi, my name is Sierra Haggard and I currently live in a one-bedroom apartment with my fiancé and two sons. We have only lived in this apartment for a few months, and for most of the time I was on paid maternity leave and my fiancé was on paid paternity leave. Before we moved into this apartment we were going back and forth between living with my mother and my fiancé’s parents, after having to move out of our two-bedroom double wide trailer (because we were already struggling and they were raising the rent). Both living situations were very stressful for our little family, especially because our youngest son was born during this time of bouncing around. I feel like no matter what we do we never seem to have enough money to afford everything that life requires, such as rent, gas/electric, phone bills, car insurance, gas, groceries, diapers, etcetera. I work 20 hours a week and am going back to school this month since having my youngest son, who is 5 months old. My fiancé works 30 hours a week, but he suffers from severe anxiety and depression, which has caused him to miss a lot of work recently. He has been seeing his doctor and he is doing a disability claim with the company in order to keep his job, however he still won’t be paid for the time he has already missed. Because of this, his next paycheck is going to be very small and we will not be able to pay our rent on the first of September (our rent is $800/ month). I have considered trying to get a loan from somewhere but I know I would struggle to pay it back over a long period of time all the while accruing interest. We are always struggling to make ends meet and we usually end up finding a way to make things work, but this time I’m at a loss. I desperately don’t want to have to keep moving my family around and putting them in stressful situations, and I feel that if we are forced to move back in with our parents, my fiancé and I will crumble under the stress and tension and will ultimately end up separating. I am writing this as a last resort to save my family, so any consideration or financial help would be greatly appreciated!
