My name is Matt and for the past 3 years (closer to 6) I have been supporting my girlfriend and me. My girlfriend and soon-to-be fiance is currently going through her last semester of grad school and I have been helping support her financially (and mentally) as she is a full-time student and does not receive any type of paycheck or stipend. We are going to be moving to FL in the fall as she finally can start her career in the winter with her last clinical coming up at the end of summer. For the next 6-8 months we will need to live in a rental, superficially Airbnb due to the timeframe. Covid threw off her original last clinical site and gave us a curveball all the way in Florida. We are in the northeast of the US. This means travel plus staying in a foreign area last minute’s notice.
I am currently working and on my pursuit to acquire a second job. I will most likely not be able to have enough upfront for a 6-8 Airbnb rental. I have about half saved at the moment but did not expect the area to be so expensive. The average is looking like 2k/month. I am also planning to purpose to my girlfriend at the end of her clinical. We have been together for 6 years! Her spirits are down right now and I have been saving for this entire time of 6 years to get a really nice ring and get away for a few days to purpose. Really what I am looking for the most help in is rent. It will be around $7-8k. I want to plan something special but the timing of all this is crazy. With some recent unfortunate life events, I have really understood life is short and I want to make this official with her as soon as possible.
I have been paying for both of us for the majority of purchases and expenses for the past 3 years on a job that really gets maxed out on one person. I try to give her the majority as she really needs to focus on school as her program is extremely intensive. It has been hard to get savings going as I am currently dealing with student loans myself only being 2 years removed from undergrad. I was starting to do doordash and do those services after work but my car ended up needing a new catalytic converter and spark plugs from the extra miles. That set me back really badly. If I could have rent covered for the next 6-8 months with her last clinical before she can get a paycheck full time this would help me get ahead tremendously. Thank you to whoever even reads this.
