My name is Bessie and for the last 6 months, I’ve been struggling to make ends meet once the end of the month hits. Because of the way my bills are planned out, they usually all auto-pay by the end of each month, that also includes my portion of rent.
My half is $615, not including heat and electric. The total monthly cost is $1,230 for a two bedroom. I work 40+ hours at Trader Joe’s, which is my only source of income, making a wage of $18/hr., that I receive bi-weekly. It’s difficult working with a salary that I only receive every two weeks as it forces me to budget, and usually that isn’t a problem. But, lately, my money has been having to go towards car repairs and/or medical bills, all while trying to stay caught up with my monthly payments like car insurance ($283.67) car note ($266.17), etc
I’ve lived with chronic back pain for most of my life and working at a physically demanding grocery store doesn’t make it any easier. Two months ago I was out of work for about 3 weeks due to the excruciating back pain I was feeling. I didn’t have enough PTO to use to support me for those whole 3 weeks and it’s been harder to keep up every month ever since. Hospitals in NY state are slowly starting to no longer accept Straight Medicaid, something I receive for free until I’m 26 years old because I used to be a child in foster care. I ended up having to pay for my medical bills out of pocket, including physical therapy, which totaled around $800.
My car isn’t old and typically doesn’t need repairs, but I was recently involved in a hit and run, around the same time I was out of work for my back pain, which costed me about $1,500 in repairs. I already make a car payment of $266.17 every 12th of the month, so having to drop a large amount of money, resulting in me emptying my savings, and being lucky enough to scrape up whatever I had left to pay rent and everything else, was overwhelming and difficult. I’m now also at risk for my insurance rate to increase, as I was never able to find who hit and damaged my car.
All I’m asking is for an amount of $600 just to help me catch up for this month. After all my payments have gone through, I’m not going to be able to afford my portion of rent and I can’t put pressure on my roommate (who works the same job as I do all while maintaining an internship and going to community college with no student loans) like that. I hope I can’t get to a point where I can feel comfortable financially again but for now, I just need a little support.
I appreciate whoever takes the time to read this and is able to give what they can. I’ve attached a screenshot of my most recent transactions, which includes my insurance payment, phone bill, Spotify, Internet, Gas and a little bit I tried to spend on groceries. I promise every dollar counts and this will be helping me a lot in the long-run. Thank you again and best wishes.
