I’m asking for $800.00 to make up the balance of my July rent of $1339. Currently, I am surviving on my Social Security benefits only which come in once per month. As one who has always taken joy in giving and donating to others over the years, it’s difficult to be on the asking end of the spectrum. However, I won’t allow my pride to render me to be homeless.
Over the last 18 months, I have experienced multiple periods of hospitalization. My recent hospitalization was in April 2023 when I had a hernia/mesh surgery. My doctor suggested that I should take it slow, no strenuous activities. Prior to this last surgery, I worked on a part-time basis to supplement my income and have a small amount of savings. Needless to say, I’m facing a significant amount of medical debt in addition to other small debts. Prior to this last surgery, I was working diligently to pay down that debt through a debt management program and made good progress in bringing that debt down over the last year. However, with one income it has become difficult to manage.
I have been a hard-working individual who will and have worked 2-3 jobs to fill in the gaps. I worked as an in-home caregiver, drove Uber/Lyft, and any side hustle that came my way. However, my body does not allow me to do so anymore.
At 68.5 years of age, I’m still dreaming, still planning, and working on an idea of online entrepreneurship to serve other seniors who are struggling to be a family caregiver to a loved one, and ultimately be able to pay off my debts and live a life free of stress due to owing others. I have also signed up to teach English online.
If you take the time to read my story and make a donation, I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart.
ps. I attempted to upload a copy of my rent receipt from its website, but it was somewhat difficult to download. I did screenshots but they were too large to upload. I tried hard for over an hour… I guess this means I need to be more tech-savvy :)
Thank you,
Marilyn J
