My husband and I separated/filed for divorce on July 1st. Our 4 children remain with me, while he visits from time to time on days I have to work. While he was living at home, his income and mine took care of everything, though it was tight. Since he moved out, my income has been chopped into about 1/3 of what it once was. However, I was recently accepted onto a new, full time job that will take care of all utilities/house essentials for myself & my children as an individual, and I am incredibly grateful! I start my job on September 5th, 2023. I’ve also filed for child support, so that the state can mandate consistent payments to come on behalf of our kids.
While this is all well & good, I can’t find a way to take care of September’s rent of $1,600. To add insult to injury, I’m trying to work on removing my ex-husband off of my lease so that I can apply for benefits as an individual (where the gov. would consider my income + child support only, instead of his checks too). The landlord is not allowing me to remove him unless I can take care of September’s rent by the 5th. Otherwise, they deem me incapable of taking care of rent by myself, and will not renew my lease, which the renewal also happens to fall on September 1st. I am in a bind that I never would have thought I would see myself in. My last check from my current job falls right after the 9/5 rent deadline on 9/6, and will be approximately $680. But with the position that I start on 9/5, I will be paid nearly $790 weekly starting in that 2nd week.
Though I am doing all the right things to try to get out of the bind, my immediate situation seems insurmountable, and I am asking for some help. If anyone is willing to contribute, my cash app is $djebee.
